Morocco & Marrakech holiday

Marrakech is a city in the grip of a delirious imagination

Marrakech is truly the city of entertainment in Morocco. In the center of Marrakech is a square, Djemaa el fna, which is the operating point for entertainers such as acrobats, drummers, dancers, pipe musicians, comedians and storytellers. There's plenty of choice for meals, including the Djemaa el Fna food stalls, many inexpensive cafe-restaurants and a number of up-market palace-restaurants that offer Morocco's traditional cuisine at its very best.

Marrakech is Morocco's second largest city and its population continues to rise. It has a prosperous industrial area and is the most significant market and organizational centre of Southern Morocco. Marrakech does not have many historical monuments and buildings; its beauty lies in the atmosphere and the spectacular location. Marrakech, with the outstanding peaks of the Atlas expanding behind the city, has very warm humid summers and shimmering white snowy winters. Marrakechis are well-known for their warmth and sociability, their humor and honesty.

Morocco & Marrakech Itinerary

Day one

We take our scheduled Easyjet flight from London Gatwick to Marrakech. On arrival in Morocco we will be met our guide and transferred to the 4* Hotel El Andalous where we will stay for the next four nights. The first night is on half board basis and the remaining nights are on bed and breakfast basis (there is an included farewell dinner on day 4)

Day two

Our half day city tour this morning takes in the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque, Morocco’s most famous and whose minaret is regarded as symbol of Marrakech, the beautiful carvings of the Saadian Tombs, the fine architecture of the ancient Bahia Palace and the Menara Basin, built for military exercises in the 12th century and used as a summer house for vizirs. We enjoy an included lunch at a carefully selected rooftop restaurant in the main square and the afternoon is spent in the souks, a maze of hundreds of shops, small streets and narrow alleyways and a feast for the senses with row after row of spices, perfumed oils, magic potions, silver and gold, leather goods, carpets and rugs.

Day three

We enjoy a full day in the peaceful Ourika Valley. Located approximately 60 kms from the vibrant city life of Marrakech and nestling in the foothills of the Atlas mountains, the small mud houses dotted along the valley give no clue to the 20th century life we have just left behind. We enjoy an included lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant and visit an authentic berber house powered by a water mill and enjoy an included lunch while we soak in the scenery.

Day four

Our included day trip with our guide to Essaouria, a two and a half hour drive to the Atlantic Ocean, explores this ancient coastal port with old defensive walls, charming streets and famous markets. This is one of North Africa’s most beautiful cities with a mixture of French, Portuguese and Berber architecture. This port was Morocco’s most prosperous city in the 17th and 18th century and the harbour still remains a hive of activity with fishing boats and local traders. This evening we have an included farewell meal of traditional Moroccan cuisine and entertainment at the excellent Chahramane Palais.

Day five

We transfer by coach to the airport for our Easyjet flight back to London Gatwick Airport.
